Classic Series Week 1

Week 1’s races saw us race at Monza, followed by Laguna Seca,  then finishing week 1 with a race around Catalunya National. All races are done in full simulation damage so require a pitstop however this week we did not realise the potential issue with fuel so this wasn’t enforced.

Race 1 Monza Full

Qualifying:  As you all know we have 3 laps for qualifying to make it really interesting so a mistake will cost you lots. We have 1 out lap and 2 flying laps. Monza is not a strong track for my VW because of its lack of high end power so on the long straights I was easy pickings for any of the faster cars however I held my own around the fast corners due to my grip. I qualified around 20th out of 24 which isn’t great but I wasn’t expecting much better due to my lack of speed.

Race: The race was fairly uneventful as I was a slower car and knew this would be a weak track. I managed to hold my own when I could and I did make it up as high as 14th at one point when some cars where pitting for fuel due to having V8 engines which where on the thirsty side. Luckily my car isn’t that thirsty on the fuel so I managed to stay out for the whole race but some of the V8’s managed to get past me on the straight once they where back on the track.

Finishing Result – 21st I have a good few battles with Outlaw as we where swapping positions a lot but my car couldn’t match his power.

Race 2 Laguna Seca

Qualifying: This was a better track for me as I can keep the power down around the many corners of this track, I lose a bit of time down the main straight but I can make this back up under breaking and in the corners. I qualified around 12th which was an improvement on the first race.

Race: This was a much more enjoyable race for me as I was battling with other racers up and down the field, due to my car been a FWD car I lose places off the line as it doesn’t get away as well, however this makes it interesting in the corners under breaking. I managed to dodge a few incidents on the opening laps and gain a few places back. I managed to hold my own through the whole race and fend off the faster cars as they couldn’t keep up in the corners, it was interesting on the exit and had to keep my wits about me as I get a good drive out and nearly rear ended a lot of cars. My finishing position was 12th which was a good result and happy with that.

Race 3 Catalunya National

Qualifying: This was going to be an interesting qualifying event as we used this track to post a time for the forum in case we needed 2 lobbies for this series. I was doing really well hot lapping prior to qualifying and my time was good for about 12th on the grid however this wasn’t the case. I had a nightmare on the exit of the last turn on the 2nd and 3rd lap which gave me dirty laps from pushing too hard. This gave me a grid position for the race of 22nd. Fantastic, lots of work to do. I wasn’t happy about this because I was hoping that in the race I could gain a few places from the grid and in the race due to pit stops etc.

Race: The race for me was good, there was a bit of an accident in the first corner which I managed to pick my way through and managed to sneak up to around 16th place in the first corner. Bonus. Now it was hammer time and time to put peddle metal. I had some really good battles around the track with various drivers. Some of the drivers I managed to get past due to not having to pit and other’s made me work for it but it was a really good race and I just managed to finish ahead of Jacall who was hunting me down in the closing laps. I managed to finish the race a solid 10th which was I happy with as this was around my predicted lobby qualifying time.

Wrap Up: In wrap up here all the races where really good and having each racer in a different car really mixes up the racing and gives you different racing around the tracks and racing with people you wouldn’t normally be fighting for position with. Since week 1 we have added a mandatory pit stop for all racers to make it fair, week 1 is what it is and there is nothing we can do about that now but moving forwards we can. The start of this series is one of the most enjoyable series I have been involved with to date as it has forced me to race with people around the grid I wouldn’t normally race with and it also has made me realise that it’s not about winning every race it’s more about consultancy and working with what you have.

Thanks for reading.
